According to IRS rules, if a business awards a prize or award (including a gift card) with a value of $600 or more to a recipient, it must report the payment to the IRS on Form 1099-MISC, box 3 ("Other income"), for the recipient. The $3,000 value of the gift card exceeds the $600 threshold; we are required to file Form 1099-MISC for this prize.
